Science Building
The science building is Siena Heights' center for environmental sustainability. Home to the science classrooms, information on going green is readily available through the environmental science and biology programs, William Issa endowed lectures, environmental documentary series, sustainability internship program, Green Light Club, and the Beta Beta Beta Biological Society chapter. Using large blue recycling bins and cardboard bins, recycling is taken out weekly, and broken glass from laboratories are recycled as well. LED lightbulbs were recently installed, which reduces the wattage of Siena’s overall electric use. There are also three reusable water bottle fountains spread throughout the building. In the courtyard by the Science building there is a National Wildlife Federation-certified wildlife habitat consisting of a native wildflower garden to support pollinators such as honeybees, wasps, and butterflies. A rain barrel collects rainwater for the garden, and a compost bin is available for students and staff to place their compost materials in to then be used as fertilizer for the garden.
